Concord River Greenway
The Lowell Parks & Conservation Trust
(LP&CT), in cooperation with the City of Lowell and various funders
and partners, is currently constructing a Greenway along the east
bank of the Concord River in Lowell, a 1.75 mile stretch from the
Lawrence Street Bridge to the confluence with the Merrimack.
Building on this initiative, University of Massachusetts Lowell
(UML) faculty, as well as staff at the LP&CT, Tsongas Industrial History Center (TIHC), and Lowell National Historical Park
(LNHP), are creating resources to enhance use of the Greenway by the
general public as well as a targeted audience of local students and
teachers. A documentary film outlining the history of the Greenway
and an historic tour of the area will be central components of this
exciting initiative. This work, in line with Lowell’s planned
redevelopment around study of its past and emphasis on its rich
culture, will make a permanent and lasting contribution to the city
by increasing visitation and improving the quality of those
outings.
