An American Ascent tackles the issue of the Adventure Gap, defined by the fact that minority populations are less likely to seek to use wilderness areas for recreation, adventure, or places of solace. The film focuses on the story of the first African- American expedition to climb the continent’s highest peak: Denali. It addresses issues of race in the outdoors while showing the physical challenges these nine hikers face in attempting to climb Denali’s 20,310 ft peak.

Here’s how our Watch Party will work:

The film will begin at 7pm on Tuesday, January 25th, but you can join us from 6:30pm. So make sure to grab your popcorn, a refreshing drink, and unwind as we start watching our first film of the series!

During and after the film, we’ll share thoughts, comments, and enjoy group discussion. It’ll be the next best thing to having you with us at the Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center!
