Be a part of witnessing the historic return of alewife to the Concord River.

During the spring of 2024, we’re expecting the return of river herring.  We need you to help us count the fish at the Centennial Island fish ladder and through video monitoring.

Training will be provided on-site at the fish ladder so you can see what this program will involve.

You bring your energy and interest in improving the Concord River watershed, and you’ll walk away feeling ready to be a fish monitor!

This program is for all ages (under 18 with an adult). This program is offered in partnership with the US Fish & Wildlife Service, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, the SuAsCo River Stewardship Council, and the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries.

Read more about our fish monitoring program here.

Meeting place: 850 Lawrence St., Lowell. Look for a small bridge over the canal.  There’s a parking area at the mill, now called Waterhead Apartments.  We’ll meet there and then walk to the fish ladder at the southern end of the island. Please don’t park in a marked/reserved space.  We will provide a parking pass for volunteers.
