Please join us in giving Sylvia a warm welcome!
Sylvia joined the LP&CT team in October 2021 as the Community Conservation Coordinator. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family in Worcester, caring for her own expanding plant collection, and volunteering at her neighborhood community garden.
In 2018, Sylvia earned her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science at the University of Maine. Soon after, she developed a passion for horticulture through her time as an AmeriCorps member in Washington, and through an internship at Native Plant Trust in MA. While she loved working outdoors, Sylvia wanted a role in which she could help more people find their connection to the outdoors. She is grateful for the opportunity to bring environmental education to classrooms in Lowell, and to help people of all backgrounds foster their connection to the natural world.
“When I was in high school, my mentors at a TRIO program took the senior class on a camping trip – my first ever! – in the White Mountains. As we watched the sunrise ascend through fog and clouds, I knew instantly that I would spend the rest of my life protecting and caring for the natural world. I hope to help someone else experience that feeling.”
