We are thrilled to share the news of an exciting initiative that has recently begun – the Environmental Youth Task Force! This task force empowers Lowell youth to identify and implement an
#EarthOptimism environmental action project within the local Lowell community. Throughout the summer, youth will build knowledge about environmental issues affecting the community and take action to implement change.
Please join us in welcoming these Lowell High School youth participants! Stay tuned for future updates about the participants and their project.

Amina, Class of 2020.
I am very passionate about the Environment and that is why I joined the task force, because I want to help other people, myself and the environment to create a better Earth that we could all co-exist sustainably.

Youvanny, Class of 2020.
I joined this program because I have always been interested in the environmental and wanted the opportunity to do more in the efforts of conservation, especially here in Lowell. In the past, I’ve been involved in the environmental clubs at my schools, and it’s helped me become very interested in learning about the earth and ways we can help it. In my free time I enjoy art!

Darren, Class of 2021.
I wanted to join this program because I felt like there was a lot more to be done beyond my involvement in the after-school program at Lowell High School. I felt this was a great way to continue to be proactive with this issue over the summer. And like all of us in the program, I care about the environment. One of my favorite things to do is to sing and my favorite food is Chinese food.

Maeleigh, Class of 2021.
I am passionate about environmental conservation and preventing climate change. I have participated in environmental projects such as measuring trees, creating a rain garden, and hosting an Environmental Youth Conference annually. These
activities have been a great way to meet like-minded people and to inspire others with our different ways of helping the environment. By joining this task force, I’m excited to meet more people who share the same passion as me and would be able to have a greater reach.

Abigail, Class of 2021.
I love being outside and enjoying nature, and it frustrates me that we as people do not treat the environment with as much respect as we should. I joined this opportunity to involve myself in making a change in my home and community. I’m considering pursuing an environmental pathway, such as environmental engineering in college, so it’s important that I get involved now to do my part! I enjoy playing field hockey and lacrosse.

Michaela, Class of 2021.
I am very interested a lot in science and climate justice, which led me to join the Environmental Youth Task Force. I wanted an opportunity to work more with people my age and in my community that care about the environment. I also wanted to play a more active role in climate activism and feel like I am contributing to a good cause. Getting better connected with other people who care about the environment is inspiring to me and I think this is one great opportunity to do so.

Rose, Class of 2022.
From a young age, I have been passionate about the environment. I have always loved insects, so when I found out they were dying at an alarming rate, I wanted to do something. In eighth grade, I won the Massachusetts Region IV Science and Engineering Fair with my project about the effect of various types of pollution on plants. Being part of this program is a way I can help spread the word about our climate and what we can do to help it. I also enjoy reading, riding my bike, climbing trees, and crocheting.
