Did you know that the Spalding House was built circa 1760 and is Lowell’s third oldest home?

Visit this colonial museum during Doors Open Lowell to discover the history of the property and its unique connection with Pawtucket Falls and the Merrimack River.  You’ll learn how the relationship between people and the river has shifted over the years; from providing abundant fish to abundant hydro-power.

Explore this relationship, and more, as we open up the Spalding House for self-guided tours and Q&A with LP&CT staff.

Doors Open Extra: This year, the Spalding House is proud to showcase selected texts from the museum’s private library.  The featured collection will illustrate the rich history of the Molly Varnum Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and their connection to the Greater Lowell community.

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with Lowell’s history during National Preservation Month!

“Doors Open Lowell offers an insiders look into many of Lowell’s magnificent historic buildings.  Being presented for the 20th time, Doors Open Lowell is the community’s signature preservation, architecture, and design event, the first of its kind in the United States when it debuted in 2002.

This free annual event held during National Preservation Month celebrates Lowell’s architectural heritage, urban living, and culture that makes the community a creative and exciting place to live, work, and visit.”
