There are two species of Dewberry on Pawtucket Farm, swamp dewberry (R. hispidus) and northern dewberry (R. flagellaris). These species have stems that trail along the ground, growing new roots along the length of the stem. They can either grow as a woody vine or low shrub. The plants’ white flowers grow in clumps, developing into small, green berries. In the winter, the leaves turn a dark reddish-brown.
