Woolly blue violet

Has glossy, heart-shaped leaves. The flowers can be white, blue, or purple. The lower three petals are hairy and the stem of the flower droops slightly. This species grows on forest floors and is interfertile, meaning it naturally crossbreeds with other closely related Viola species. The leaves develop in the early spring when the forest canopy is still growing in. When the tree crowns closes, the leaves continue to grow and develop.
